Gold and Silver in Paris for Belgium.

Peter Genyn (46) from Kalmthout won gold in the 100m wheelchair sprint (class T51) at the G-athletics world championship in Paris. Compatriot Roger Habsch (44) shot to silver.

With 19.79, Genyn, reigning Paralympic champion, set a championship record. Defending champion Toni Piispanen (46) raced to bronze. Peter Genyn (G-sport Vlaanderen) won his series and beat, among others, the Finn Piispanen, who was the strongest in this number in Dubai 2019. Roger Habsch (Ligue Handisport Francophone) from Liège also won in his series, with a championship record (19.96).In lanes six and four, Genyn and Habsch took the fastest start in the final. Both sprinted neck and neck for a long time. A little past the halfway point, Peter took the lead and held on. Peter shot to a new world title in 19.79. In doing so, he broke the championship record set by Roger Habsch in the heats earlier that day. It is the sixth world title for Peter Genyn, the third in the 100 meter wheeling (Doha 2015, London 2017). The athlete from Nieuwmoer also became Paralympic champion in that number in 2021 and 2016.

On Monday, July 17, Peter Genyn and Roger Habsch will again compete for a World Cup medal. Their final is scheduled for 5:41 PM
